For developers: one link opens Chui and starts recording, with an optional meeting name.
The link. Two spellings, and they do the same thing:
chui://record?name=Weekly%20sync — the app's own address. Opens the Chui app on an iPhone, an Android phone, a Mac or a Windows PC.https://chui.io/record/start?name=Weekly%20sync — a web address. Opens the Android app where it is installed; everywhere else it opens chui.io in a browser tab, which records there. iPhones open this one in the browser for now; use chui://record to reach the iPhone app.Opening either brings Chui to the front on the recording screen with the recording already running: the clock moving and the red recording mark showing. Put it behind a button in your app, a calendar invite, a web page or a Shortcut.
The name. name is optional. When given, it becomes the meeting's name, exactly as if the person had typed it, and Chui's own summary does not replace it. Write it URL-encoded (%20 for a space). Chui keeps it to one line of visible text: line breaks and invisible characters are removed, and it is cut at 80 characters. Without a name, Chui names the meeting from what was said, as it always does. Nothing else in the link is read.
A recording already running is never interrupted. If Chui is already recording, the link brings that recording's screen to the front and changes nothing: no second recording starts, nothing stops, and the running meeting keeps its own name.
Who it records for. The recording goes into the account signed in on that device, like one started with the Record button. Signed out, Chui shows its sign-in screen first and keeps the link: once the person signs in on that device, within fifteen minutes, the recording starts with the name the link carried. On the free plan the usual monthly limit applies.
What the person sees, and what asks first. The link can never record unseen: Chui always comes to the front showing the recording, which the person can stop or discard at once. A web page cannot open chui:// silently either — Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox ask «Open Chui?» first. In a browser tab, the browser asks for the microphone the first time and shows its own recording mark on the tab. The first recording on a phone or computer still asks for the microphone, as every recording does.
In a browser tab the recording only lasts while the tab stays open and the screen stays on. A tab cannot see another tab: opening the web link in a new tab while a different chui.io tab is already recording starts a second recording there, and both are kept. For a meeting in a room, the phone app is the better recorder.
